I recently saw a Grasshopper land on my window sill and I swear it was saying hello to me—it was even waving one of its legs in greeting (to anthropomorphize!). Here’s my Perpetual Journal illustration of my Grasshopper visitor.
Seeing this Grasshopper greeting me 😊 got me to wondering…if Grasshoppers could speak (or do speak!) a human language, which language would they speak? My answer is shown in my Perpetual Journal. I’m sure at least a couple of you reading this know which language this is, and what my Grasshopper friend is saying. 😃
The past few weeks we’ve seen a handful of the mambo-sized (≥4”) Sphinx Moth larvae that I illustrated for this same PJ page in 2023, and yes, these Sphinx Moth larvae have been nom-nomming our Desert Willow leaves again this year.
Following Up on a Former "Greenie"
To follow up on the mystery eggs and larvae (“Greenies”) I recently blogged about in Caterpillar Conundrum, Part 1 and Caterpillar Conundrum, Part 2: Hubby and I were fortunate enough to see a second Greenie turn into a chrysalis and then “graduate” (eclose as a Sleepy Orange Butterfly) AND we got a better look at the butterfly’s dorsal (top) side—the side with the deep orange and black markings on it. In this photo of Greenie Graduate #2 you can see its empty chrysalis just above it.
The same day this butterfly eclosed, I was sitting in our living room and saw a Sleepy Orange fluttering in front of our living room window. Maybe it was our latest Sleepy Orange friend saying hello to me! 😍
