Spring wildflowers have continued to bloom in our yard so of course I can’t resist painting all these amazing colors for my Perpetual Journal!
We’ve had a few Desert Blue Bells blooming and I love their intense, saturated blue-purple color! Our pink Penstemon (that I painted last year) have also been blooming since March 11 this year—over 5 weeks now!
I continued the “pink” theme by painting one of our Hedgehog cacti in bloom—the first of our cacti to bloom this year—and our yard is currently filled with the yellow flowers of both varieties of Brittlebush that I painted last year.
🦉The Owl and the Roadrunner
Here’s a fun nature story for you…yesterday around 11:30 a.m. while inside our house I heard what sounded like a Western Screech-Owl calling. I ran to the window to look out at our owl box (which is frequented by Western Screech-Owls), because owls don’t generally call during the day. What I saw was a Greater Roadrunner, on top of our house, right next to our owl box, and the Roadrunner was making the owl-like sound!
We’ve heard Greater Roadrunners make a cavalcade of sounds including coos, clicks & clacks but I've never heard one make an owl-like sound! Here’s a recording of a Roadrunner making this owl-like sound.
Our Roadrunner friend continued to call off-and-on in our yard for almost an hour. 😍

The link in last week’s email, that was supposed to 😊 go to the OAT article about my New Zealand Visual Trip Journal, unfortunately got dorked up (it’s correct online). So here’s the updated link to that article about my New Zealand Visual Trip Journal!

I love the roadrunner audio. I thought they could only say, "Beep, beep." :)
