Yes, we have Fall foliage in Tucson! The leaves on many of our native trees and shrubs turn a golden yellow color in Fall, including leaves on Mesquite trees, Palo Verde trees, and Ocotillos (as I showed in last week’s post).
For my latest Perpetual Journal entry I chronicled the range of leaf colors I saw on a single Ocotillo in our yard. Most of our Ocotillos had already dropped their leaves, but this one was sporting leaves with a range of colors from green to golden to brown.
…and 2700 miles to the north…
In 2017 Hubby & I visited Denali National Park in Alaska in late August, during the peak of Fall foliage there. During our hikes on the tundra we enjoyed the beautiful Fall foliage of Arctic Dwarf Birch and many other tundra plants. Arctic Dwarf Birch is a small shrub that grows to a maximum height of 3’ and its very small (0.25”-0.75”) leaves were bursting with color! Here’s one of my pieces of art from that trip.
I hope you’re getting to enjoy Fall foliage or Spring wildflowers (depending on which hemisphere you live in 🌎🌏) and other natural beauty wherever you live!
