The official start of Winter is only two days from now, but you wouldn’t know it based on our current temperatures in Tucson. Our daily highs this week have been hovering around 80° F. though the normal daily high for Tucson in December is 65.5° F.
So before Winter officially begins, I’ll share two of my recent Perpetual Journal pages featuring Fall foliage!
Hubby & I enjoy visiting Sweetwater Wetlands (a water treatment facility in Tucson); it’s always a pleasant place for strolling and birdwatching. Over 300 species of birds have been spotted at Sweetwater! As an added bonus recently, we saw some Fall foliage we don’t normally see in our neighborhood.

I do occasionally see a little Fall foliage during my walks around our neighborhood and chronicled this in another PJ entry.

As you see, in 2023 my PJ entry was of more typical Sonoran Desert Fall foliage: tiny green, yellow & rust leaves on Mesquite trees.
Despite our lack of Fall foliage here, Fall and especially late Fall is a glorious time to be outside in Tucson, with mostly clear skies, cool nights in the 40s (and even 30s) and daytime highs (usually) in the 60s and 70s. At this time of year I’m especially glad I’m not somewhere getting blasted with Winter storms! 🥶
🎄 Also, ‘tis the season that Hubby & I enjoy watching our favorite holiday movies (including animated movies, natürlich!). Here are two quotes from one we re-watched recently!
"But...maybe he's only a little crazy like painters or composers or...some of those men in Washington."
- Mr. Shellhammer, Miracle on 34th Street (original 1947 version)
and
"Faith is believing things when common sense tells you not to."
- Fred Gailey, Miracle on 34th Street (original 1947 version)
