I recently finished another piece in my Tucson Yard Journal series: November. In this series I’m combining my art with my words to tell the story of the amazing flora and fauna I enjoy throughout the year right here in my own yard.
I started this series with the month of June and you can see all my Tucson Yard Journal pieces to date on my website.
Art Process Video for Tucson Yard Journal ~ November
Here’s an art process video I made to show how I created Tucson Yard Journal ~ November, with the steps detailed below.
🎨 My Art Process for Tucson Yard Journal ~ November
Make notes about interesting natural history events in our yard during November and take reference photos
Sketch the layout in pencil and then in pen, on a piece of tissue paper
Use blue painter’s tape on my watercolor paper to mask off the areas around the panels where I’m going to paint as well as the caption boxes and speech balloons which will remain white
Trace my layout onto my watercolor paper, using pencil and then waterproof pen
Erase any pencil on my watercolor paper
Mask off the subjects for the panels using masking fluid
Paint the backgrounds for the panels using watercolor
Remove the masking fluid
Paint the subjects for the panels using watercolor + a little colored pencil
Remove the blue painter’s tape
Add the panel borders, captions and speech bubble text, title, introductory text & signature, using waterproof pen
That’s it, in a nutshell…..….easy peasy, right?! 😉

“I do not say meep-meep” wins today. Thanks for the chuckle.
